Rajyothsava / Deepawali celebrations was on Saturday, November 19th 2011 at Mahatma Gandhi Center from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
A wonderful evening of entertainment presented as a skit called "PayaNa" with the main protagonists Dattatri Chandrasekhar and Hemanth Kumar! A skit that made the journey from St. Louis to Bangalore and then took us thru the different regions of Karnataka .... an idea that was very well scripted, with a lot of comedy and absolutely well received by the audience!
An evening that was kick started by our Karma Bhoomi and Janma Bhoomi national anthems was followed by an inspiring invocation of "Shri Ganesha Stuti" by the adults. A lovely dance rendering to "Ghallu Ghallenuthaa ..." by the 3 to 5 year old kids was followed by a classical song. Well know Kannada author Smt. Usha Rai was introduced on stage and spoke a few words to the audience as well.
The main event off the night was a splendid performance by sixteen kids, describing the formation of the state of Karnataka in the form of the drama "EkeekarNa". The drama was followed by a heart warming dance performance to the song "BaLuktaLLamma Nam Kaveri ..." from the Kannada movie Naanu Nanna Kanasu, by the 7 to 10 year old kids.
The night ended with a solid and unique "Ghaambheeryada Minchu ..." dance by the boys! Take a peak at their performance here.
